Your face shape is determined by three key measurements: the width of your jaw, the width of your cheekbones and forehead, and the length of your face from hairline to chin. These proportions — and how they relate to each other — produce five recognised face shapes. How Face Shape Is Measured
The Three Key Measurements

Jaw width — the distance across the jaw at its widest point (just below the earlobes). This is the key distinguishing measurement for square and round shapes.

Cheekbone width — the distance across the face at the widest cheekbone point. In most faces, this is the widest measurement overall.

Face length — the distance from the centre of the hairline (or approximate forehead top) to the tip of the chin.

Forehead width — measured just above the eyebrows. A wider forehead relative to jaw indicates a heart shape.

An oval face is slightly longer than it is wide, with the cheekbones as the widest point and a gently narrowing jaw and forehead. The proportions are harmonious without being perfectly symmetrical. Often described as the "ideal" face shape in fashion and beauty contexts — though this is cultural, not universal.

A round face has similar width and length, with full cheeks and a rounded jawline without a strong angular definition.
